Game Boy in 2000

DF_GAMEBOY_ROCKCENTERNYC May 6, 2014. One of my regular blog reads, DF Fireball, noted this post by David Friedman, a New York photographer.  Friedman posts odd images and comments on his Ironic Sans blog. He mentions taking photographs with a Game Boy back in the year 2000. He doubled the image size of the 160 x 144 pixel images (sample at left) to show them today. Clicking on the one I chose to illustrate this post will show you a 200% enlargement – pixels and all.

David has a site for his day to day professional photographs as well. Have a look.

Heartbleed

Gable at the GlobeToronto, April 9, 2014. I was surprised to read the Globe and Mail news at breakfast this morning (on line, not in the paper, as yet) that the CRA closed its web site due to a bug in the OpenSSL library it uses. Rats!  Just when I was ready to do my taxes too! As I read more, the bug and its potential was downright scary.

Tonight, I read about the bug on John Gruber’s site, Daring Fireball,  I am a regular reader of Gruber’s blog and followed his link to Bruce Schneier’s blog. Schneier is CTO at Co3 Systems and has been in the security business for over a decade. His blog, Schneier on Security has a link to test for the bug. PHSC appears to be clean. Phew!

PhotoTree.com and old images

PhotoTree.com

PhotoTree.com

Toronto, March 20, 2014. One of the Founders of the PHSC, John Linsky, called me this afternoon about a site called PhotoTree. This site says it is “dedicated to research, restoration, and preservation of 19th and early 20th Century Photographs”.

Take some time to browse the site and see how it can help you identify the kinds of images you have and their dates.

The restoration processes suggested by the site are to use Photoshop on digital copies and preserve the original images as is.

Whether you are a beginner or experienced image collector, you will find something of interest on this site.
