Wray Mystery Camera
Toronto. The latest issue was packaged Wednesday and hits the mail routes shortly. Members will see this issue in a few days. As mentioned recently this edition is the first to use our new layout.
The main article was first published earlier this year in Photographic World and asks the question “was This England’s First 35mm Camera?”. The article is well researched by author John Wade who was fortunate to be able to interview the late Arthur Penwarden a retired Director of Wray who was 97 at the time.
The second article too was well researched, this time by our editor Lansdale and co-editor Louise Freyburger. Titled “Mrs. Fletcher Arrives in Toronto…” it discusses who should be considered the first photographer in Canada.
Toronto Notes, a long running column, reviews three Toronto speakers (April, May, June). Tom Bochsler on his visit to WWII graves in Europe, Lorne Shields on the Velocipede, And Robert C Lansdale on the anniversary of the CN Tower. This column is followed by another popular column “A Treasure from my Collection…” which reviews an example of the Shew XIT camera. The column shows pictures of this rare camera from John Kantymir’s collection and uses technical research and writing by Robert Wilson.
Two PHSC events are featured next in photo essays (June Auction and July Trunk Sale) followed by two articles on Kodak Canada: The quietly disappearing Kodak Heights campus, and Kodak Canada’s involvement in WW1.
