Toronto. This is the final issue of our 40th year. We begin our 41st year with issue 41-1 this coming May. For this issue, which hit the post office yesterday afternoon, there are a number of interesting items researched by our members. Editor Bob Lansdale has once again produced a masterpiece with articles of interest to all collectors.
We begin with reports on the November and December meetings. In November, past president Mike Robinson took a break from his pursuit of a doctorate to offer up his views on the daguerreotype and what makes each one unique. Fascinating and enlightening. For our annual Show and Tell in December, there is a brief note and a photo essay by editor Lansdale.
For the camera collectors we have the rare Norka Multi-shot Studio Camera. This example weighing in at almost 50 pounds is owned by John Kantymir. John had it shipped from its native Denmark. Bob Wilson added a detailed and illustrated history of the camera and the company that made it.
Our thesis winner this year is Anna Krentz, BA. Anna’s winning thesis, Snapshots with an Edge, researches the deckle edged photograph common in the 1950s and 60s. Lots of examples illustrate this part 1 of her paper. Part 2 will appear in issue 41-1.
This issue wraps up with another camera article, this time the inexpensive Imperial Debonair available in the post war years. Inserts include The PHSC News Sheet listing current events and other timely news and Browsing through our Exchanges, Louise Freyburger’s column outlining the contents of recent journals from our Exchange organizations.
