In Memory of George Gilbert

George-Gilbert-by-RL-smOn November 1st, 2012 the Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home in Portland, Oregon announced the death of George Gilbert (October 13, 1922 – November 1, 2012). Mister Gilbert was a well known writer of photographic articles in the popular press of the mid 20th century. He spoke at our society at our October 1995 and June 2004 meetings. He is perhaps best known for his “Leica Freedom Train” article. In his 2004 visit, George was photographed by our journal editor Bob Lansdale, whose uncredited portrait of Mr Gilbert appears in various sources.  You can click on the Skyline Memorial Gardens name to link to the memorial posted on their site, The memorial is available online until December 1, 2013.
