Some of the earliest cameras were <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Pinhole_camera\">pinhole cameras<\/a>. The mechanics magazines of the 1950s\u00a0periodically gave plans for<a href=\"https:\/\/www.pinterest.se\/lstepney\/pinhole-camera\/\"> making your own pinhole camera<\/a>. The challenge was the creation of a pinhole the right diameter and perfectly round.<\/p>\n<p>Often the magazine articles suggested a suitable darning needle and a sturdy foil. The hole was carefully centred on one side of the light tight container and the sensitive medium &#8211; film or photographic paper &#8211; was placed across from it in the container.<\/p>\n<p>The choice of container size and, shape, plus the\u00a0sensitive material size determined whether the camera image was\u00a0a panorama, normal, wide angle, telephoto, etc. At one time I even had a small book on pinhole cameras called <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jhbooks.com\/pages\/books\/117616\/jim-shull\/the-hole-thing-a-manual-of-pinhole-fotografy\"><em>The Hole Thing<\/em><\/a>. Today, as my friend George Dunbar recently mentioned, we have an annual pinhole camera day each April. <a href=\"http:\/\/pinholeday.org\/gallery\/2017\/index.php?page=1\">The results of the pinhole event are posted on line to celebrate the world pinhole day<\/a>. \u00a0This year, the day was April 26th and the results are now posted. <a href=\"http:\/\/pinholeday.org\/gallery\/2017\/index.php?formType=list&amp;f_action=refresh&amp;countryName=Canada&amp;provinceName=Ontario&amp;cityName=&amp;Country=Canada&amp;Province=Ontario&amp;City=Toronto\">Toronto had two images<\/a>, one by Larry Reid and a second by Freddy Lum.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto.
