Ritual by Vincenzo Pietropaolo – \u00a0Available on Feb 2017<\/p><\/div>\n

Toronto<\/strong>. \u00a0I received a nice email from Toronto photographer Vincenzo Pietropaolo last Friday announcing his latest book of photographs. Ritual – four decades of the Easter parade in Toronto’s little Italy, \u00a0will be printed and available the first of next month. The press release announces that the book will be available directly from Vince who has spoken at our monthly meetings twice (Feb. 2008<\/a>, March 2012<\/a>\u00a0– see Toronto Notes). The release as written by Vince, is as follows:<\/p>\n

“RITUAL\u00a0<\/span><\/b><\/span>is a hard cover book, 216 pages, with over 150 photographs (colour and b&w) of the Good Friday Procession, in Toronto\u2019s Little Italy, from 1969-2015. It is a coffee table book with an embossed cloth cover and dust jacket.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“The book was published by Black Dog Publishing, a prestigious publisher based in London, UK and luxuriously printed in Italy.\u00a0It\u00a0is a legacy document that chronicles one of the largest processions in North America.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“I have been photographing the historic event for over four decades, and in the process it has become my own ritual of photography. The book\u00a0 includes essays by Maia-Mari Sutnik (Art Gallery of Ontario) and Don Snyder (Ryerson University).\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“Publishing photography books is becoming increasingly challenging, or even impossible without outside support for publishers. For this book I resorted to a crowd funding campaign, which raised enough funds for the publisher to undertake the project.<\/span><\/p>\n

“But I will not be receiving any royalties or other payment from books sold in bookstores (including on-line stores).
