\nDuring the famous gold rush era of the late 1890s, the Chilkoot Trail<\/a> served as a route from Skagway Alaska \u00a0to the gold fields near Dawson City in the Yukon as described by Pierre Burton in his book Klondike<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Member Scott Rickard once lived up in the Yukon and at our September meeting he will recall the exciting days of the Chilkoot Trail, those brief years when it was a corridor for the mail, miners, and would be miners between Alaska and the Yukon.<\/p>\n

Scott Rickard is an Ontario based photographer with a Photography Arts Diploma. As a photographer, he has traveled through countries such as Egypt, Israel, Germany, France, Jordon, Libya and England.<\/p>\n

Throughout his career, he has photographed some interesting people such as, Pierre Berton, Anwar Sadat and Glen Gould. Up in the Yukon, Scott owned and operated a photographic studio and darkroom doing weddings, portraits and commercial assignments, with such clients as the Yukon News, Yukon Art Gallery, Faro Mine Corporation and Parks Canada.<\/p>\n

He has documented the re-enactment of the historic mail run (the subject of tonight’s presentation) with the Canadian Cadets who came from across Canada. The role of the cadets was to carry the mail from Skagway Alaska over the Chilkoot Trail to Dawson City, \u00a0Yukon just like it took place during the famous gold rush days.<\/p>\n

Now back in Ontario and retired from photography, he still enjoys doing black and white film developing and printing as well as more esoteric processes such as\u00a0tintypes and ambrotypes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
