In a few short weeks it will be time again for another\u00a0 popular Show & Tell evening at PHSC. Members can and do bring all sorts of unusual items for show and possible identification. If you have an item, please let Clint know so he can add you to the list! He can be reached at:\u00a0fair@phsc.ca<\/a>.<\/p>\n

As usual, we will have our traditional gift exchange. Bring a gift of about $15 of interest to a member to participate \u2013 President Mark Singer will bring his Christmas Tree. During the evening, we will have another excellent silent auction too, so bring lots of \u00a0spare change!<\/p>\n

By the way, in the above icon, I show an 1890s lens called a Zeiss Anastigmat, licensed to the maker, Bausch and Lomb, in Rochester NY. It is marked as series V with a full plate (8.5 x 6.5 inches) coverage. The Series V mark\u00a0denotes\u00a0an extreme wide angle design.<\/p>\n

The Anastigmat<\/em> was renamed Protar<\/em> after\u00a0Zeiss lost a\u00a0court battle (Zeiss used a capital A in anastigmat to attempt to trademark the\u00a0name).\u00a0The series V wide angle Protars continued to be manufactured\u00a0into the 1930s.<\/p>\n

The Paul Rudolf designed Anastigmat<\/em> was a milestone event in photographic history. By using a\u00a0then new type of Schott glass, Rudolf created a lens free of astigmatism allowing a true flat field at the film plane for the first time.<\/p>\n
