\nRonit Novak<\/strong><\/p>\n

Ronit<\/a>\u00a0(pronounced Row-neat) is the Director of Photography at Canadian Business and MoneySense magazines (both print and tablet platforms). The “daguerreotype look” portrait at left was created by Raina and Wilson Photographers<\/a> in Toronto.<\/p>\n

She teaches Historic Photographic Processes with studio instruction in wet-collodion Ambrotypes, Cyanotypes and VanDyke prints at the Haliburton School of Arts, Fleming College. She has taught theory courses in the History of Photography at Sheridan College, and the International Academy of Design and Technology.<\/p>\n

An avid collector, Ronit’s personal collection of historical daguerreotypes, ambrotypes, tintypes and stereographs, leans thematically towards humans and animal relationships. Ronit is currently working multimedia and video ventures as the newest phase in the evolving history of photography.<\/p>\n

Ronit’s visual presentation and lecture on ambrotypes will begin with a brief history of the wet-collodion and ambrotype process, and its social, economic, and historical role. She will go through the chemical process from start-to-finish, with imagery to display each step of the process. The lecture will highlight some contemporary ambrotypists, including Sally Mann<\/a>.<\/p>\n

There will be many physical examples of historic and contemporary ambrotypes that you will be able to see up close. There will be a brief outline on how to restore damaged ambrotypes and keep them preserved. She\u00a0will also discuss the role of historical photography today, and how it remains a relevant factor in contemporary art, editorial, and commercial practice.<\/p>\n
