40 years ago, I never thought that the PHSC would evolve and thrive the way it has. We are blessed with a large progressive and articulate executive board running the gamut from youngsters in their 20s to elders in their 80s. Tons of professional talent and every bit is unpaid volunteer work!<\/p>\n
I joined the new camera collecting group just after the charter \u00a0membership ended. At the time, I lived in Montreal and flew frequently to Toronto on business. I bought a Leica M4 a couple of years earlier, shortly\u00a0after my second daughter was born, and was searching for lenses and accessories. Each trip I checked the Toronto Star want ads (427). One night I saw an invitation to a meeting at the North York library. I delayed my return home a few hours and went to the meeting. I have been a member ever since.<\/p>\n
Bob Lansdale took over the task of editor 17 years ago in January 1997. He first edited issue 22-4 and with this issue he will have been editor for almost half<\/em>\u00a0 the years we have published the journal. He certainly has made his mark! Each issue is well researched and type-set. Typos are enthusiastically searched out and squashed by a small but devoted group before each issue is printed.<\/p>\n Issue 40-1 is the first issue of our 40th anniversary year. It is appropriate that the main article is by editor Bob Lansdale himself: The Complete Self-Instructing Library of Practical Photography<\/em>. This opus is a 10 volume hard cover set first published in 1909. A number of other articles are printed in 40-1 including John Kantymir’s Samocaflex in his column, A Treasure from my Collection<\/em>, Stan White’s contemporary collecting article on digital cameras, Stan White is Addicted to Digital Cameras<\/em>, and reviews of the\u00a0first three Toronto programs by president Mark Singer in his Toronto Notes<\/em> column.<\/p>\n New members are always welcome.
