Toronto<\/strong>. Projectors as we know them were called ‘magic lanterns’ decades ago because they displayed a picture, not just an illumination.<\/p>\n

Some collectors, like Mr Lambert, search for the various lantern slides and magic lanterns common two centuries ago.<\/p>\n

The lantern slide image at left is used as the cover shot for issue 28-2 in the late fall of 2002. Editor Lansdale adds this brief explanation on the inside cover: “Chasing after photographic collectables can have a variety of benefits and deficits. Hardware collectors soon find that storage space is at a premium as their collection becomes larger particularly when they are tempted to acquire equipment that is voluminous in size such as old studio cameras with their stands.<\/p>\n

“Professor\u00a0M. Lindsay Lambert of Ottawa illustrates his collecting habit which takes\u00a0up a more modest space but which\u00a0offers him the challenge to fit the ‘found pieces’ to photographic history.<\/p>\n

“This quaint view card reminds us of bygone days when sitters gathered to have their portraits captured with daylight flooding through the studio windows. See pages 12 and 13 for additional samples.”<\/p>\n
