the late PHSC member Ro Walker, Ron collected microscopes, Zeiss cameras, and optical books<\/p><\/div>\n

Toronto<\/strong>. We lost Ron in 2002. He and wife Joan were PHSC members and frequent volunteers. I personally enjoyed Ron’s deep knowledge of microscopes as myself, he, and editor EvRoseborough were also microscope collectors and members of the rather short lived HMSC founded by another PHSC member Fritz Shulze of Zeiss Canada.<\/p>\n

When Ron passed in January of 2002, His obituary was written and printed a few months later in volume 27-5 of the journal from a PHSC perspective:<\/p>\n

“After a long and courageous battle\u00a0with cancer member Ron Walker succumbed peacefully in his sleep at age\u00a079. Beloved husband of Joan Wrigley\u00a0Tudge, the couple were frequent volunteers at PHSC events.<\/p>\n

“Ron served as a Flight Lieutenant\u00a0with the RCAF during the Second\u00a0World War and as a Captain with Trans\u00a0Canada Air Lines\/Air Canada until his\u00a0retirement in 1983.<\/p>\n

“A specialist in collecting microscopes he assembled a library of classic\u00a0works on his chosen instrument and set\u00a0up an enviable workshop with lathe and\u00a0milling machines to restore his found\u00a0treasures to pristine working condition.<\/p>\n

“His quests took him to England, Europe\u00a0and America to seek out acquisitions or\u00a0to examine museum specimens before\u00a0beginning restoration on a similar piece\u00a0in Canada.<\/p>\n

“Ron was featured in Photographic\u00a0Canadiana<\/em>, Sept\/Oct 1993 in a ‘Meet the Collector’ article and was part of a\u00a0speakers panel during a ‘Micro Night’.<\/p>\n

“Mr. Walker equally served his community as a longtime Commissioner\u00a0with the Streetsville Public Utilities\u00a0Commission and Hydro Mississauga.\u00a0He was honoured with the President\u2019s\u00a0Citation by the Ontario Municipal\u00a0Electrical Association for his distinguished contributions to the MEA and\u00a0the electricity industry.<\/p>\n

“With his expertise in optics he was called upon as consultant to IMAX.”<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
