Toronto<\/strong>. As the 2026 Spring Fair<\/a> quickly approaches, what is more suitable than a look back at a 2001\/2 article about a camera discovered at our inaugural Fall fair?<\/p>\n

In Bill Belier’s column, “A Treasure From My Collection”, Bill begins, “Some days you get lucky and\u00a0<\/i>such was the case for John Linsky on\u00a0<\/i>Sunday, October 20, 1985. The date\u00a0<\/i>is only memorable because it was the\u00a0<\/i>day of the inaugural PHSC Fall Fair.<\/i><\/p>\n

“After eleven successful consecutive\u00a0<\/i>spring fairs, the Society believed that\u00a0<\/i>growing public interest in photograph<\/i>ica, in the greater Toronto area, war<\/i>ranted a second such effort. The result exceeded\u00a0<\/i>our expectations, and the October Fall Fair became\u00a0<\/i>an annual event for the PHSC.<\/i><\/p>\n

“But what was so lucky and so memorable for John L. on that day? As he\u00a0recalls the events \u2013 with less than one\u00a0hour to closing time the activities were\u00a0slowing down. He glanced cross the\u00a0aisle at his neighbour\u2019s table and\u00a0noticed what he took to be a dark wooden box camera \u2026he wondered why he\u00a0hadn\u2019t noticed it before.<\/p>\n

“Fortunately for him he lost no time in\u00a0crossing the aisle to inspect the camera.\u00a0Instantly he knew the rarity of what he\u00a0was holding \u2013 a Luzo Detective Camera!<\/p>\n

“Being the pragmatic and experienced\u00a0negotiator that John is, he dispensed with\u00a0the customary \u201cmight be interested\u201d ploy\u00a0and quickly arrived at a purchase price,\u00a0mutually satisfactory to both parties\u00a0\u2026only about five minutes had elapsed\u00a0since he first noticed the camera!\u00a0But John had another surprise in\u00a0store for him.” …<\/p>\n
