a rare Lizar camera c1902 – Challenge Dayspool No. 1<\/p><\/div>\n

Toronto<\/strong>. Most of our event offerings are either German or North American. Occasionally we see English products. Rarely do we see Scottish cameras.<\/p>\n

The remarkable camera in Bill Belier’s issue 27-1 column is a rare Lizars (not lizard) from Scotland. The camera is made \u00a0by J. Lizars in Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n

Bill begins his article, “One of the most collectable of the early folding roll film bellows cameras would have to be the Challenge Dayspool No. 1 (circa 1902) manufactured by J. Lizars of Glasgow, Scotland.<\/p>\n

“This exquisite instrument is a joy to behold for it\u00a0reflects the fine craftsmanship and attention to detail so much\u00a0admired and associated with the British cabinet makers\u2019 guild\u00a0of that era.<\/p>\n

“As I prepare this article, I have before me just such a\u00a0camera\u2026 a treasure from the collection of a PHSC charter\u00a0member and our founding President, John Linsky.<\/p>\n

“A Lizars camera had been on his \u201cwant list\u201d for some time and I remember being just as delighted as he was when he called some time ago to announce\u2026 ‘Hey, guess what?\u2026 I just got a Lizars through a friend of mine right here in Toronto!’\u201d …<\/p>\n
