a rare Canon NS<\/p><\/div>\n

Toronto<\/strong>. A few days back on Nov 29th, 2025, \u00a0I posted a note about “a couple of rare birds<\/a>“, the cover shot for issue 25-5. \u00a0In the following issue, 26-1 editor Lansdale notes an e-mail from Paul Nelson, up Ottawa way, who snapped up the Canon NS.<\/p>\n

Our editor Lansdale writes, “Paul Nelson of Carleton Place,\u00a0Ontario (up near Ottawa) e-mailed\u00a0us to say that he was surprised but\u00a0quite delighted to see his camera, the\u00a0Canon NS, reproduced on the cover of\u00a0our March\/April issue.<\/p>\n

“He purchased\u00a0it a year ago in London while attending\u00a0a Christie\u2019s auction.\u00a0Recalls Mr. Nelson, ‘I came back\u00a0with about 20 cameras including early\u00a0Leicas and an interesting multi-image\u00a0plate camera that uses a clock-work\u00a0motor to move the plate into position.\u00a0Sheldon Chen is a friend of mine and\u00a0we had discussed the camera before I\u00a0left for the auction. As it turns out\u00a0Sheldon was bidding against me over\u00a0the phone from Toronto. Heaven knows\u00a0how much extra that cost me!’<\/p>\n

\u201c’I started collecting cameras and\u00a0photographica about 1971 and have\u00a0over 600 cameras to this date which\u00a0includes machine-gun cameras from\u00a0WW I and II, wood & brass examples,\u00a0RFDR\u2019s, miniatures and the inevitable\u00a0folders and boxes. Images cover a wide\u00a0swath of stereos, cartes, ambrotypes\u00a0and tintypes.<\/p>\n

“‘I\u2019m always looking for\u00a0unusual cameras as I eventually hope\u00a0to set up a camera museum here in my\u00a0home town. I\u2019m proud to be a member\u00a0of the society as it’s nice to know that I\u2019m not the only crazy camera collector\u00a0out there’\u201d.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
