Toronto<\/strong>. In collecting old photos, one source may be old photographic greeting cards. Our journal editor, the late Bob Lansdale, wrote this article and anecdote from a conversation with the previous journal editor, the late EvRoseborough.<\/p>\n

Bob Writes, “As we settle into the grips of the snow season we are reminded that nature can turn\u00a0an ugly hand at any time and place us at\u00a0its mercy. Last year\u2019s ice storms [1999] created havoc\u00a0to our electric distribution systems causing\u00a0many households to add portable generators to\u00a0their emergency survival kit.<\/p>\n

“Nature can also apply a touch of artistry\u00a0during her wintery blasts. Such is the case with\u00a0our accompanying illustration which Ev\u00a0Roseborough shot in the 1960\u2019s. Recalls Ev, ‘I\u00a0had a standing invitation from Mark Napier,\u00a0VP of J. Walter Thompson ad agency to visit\u00a0his farm just north of Toronto. The morning\u00a0after the storm the sun burst forth and all was\u00a0beautiful; so I bundled my kids into the car\u00a0and phoned to say I was on the way.<\/p>\n

“There were photo opportunities for my Rollei in all directions but this scene \u00a0[above left] which includes Mark, his wife Frances and their poodle dog, turned out to be the best. It was chosen for the Napier family\u2019s Christmas card.”‘ …<\/p>\n
