In the early years of the PHSC, we ended the &#8216;year&#8217; with a summer picnic and photo contest &#8211; but with a difference. The locale was noted for featuring the olden days (like Black Creek Pioneer Village here in the big smoke) and the photos were taken with (initially) pre minicam cameras often dating to the 1800s.<\/p>\n<p>In his enthusiasm to celebrate the 25th \u00a0anniversary of the PHSC, editor Lansdale suggested amongst other events, a special photo contest with awards and publication in the PHSC journal. The judges were non-PHSC folk recognized for their acumen and judgement of photographs. The cameras used were extended to 120 roll, or 35mm but old.<\/p>\n<p>In issue 25-4 the winning photos and winners and prizes were published. The first prize award ($250) went to the late Bob Squires (PHSC member and high school teacher) for his photograph taken with an old standard Rolleiflex TLR camera.<\/p>\n<p>Ed Warner, the Photo Contest Chairman, wrote this article about the winners: &#8220;Winners of the PHSC 25th Anniversary\u00a0Photo Contest were announced at the\u00a0December [1999] meeting after judging had been\u00a0completed by visitors Robert Hall, John\u00a0Poole and Jonathan Ward. This panel was\u00a0supplied by the GTCCC from a list of qualified judges.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;Taking first place honours was Bob Squires who won the $250.00 prize for his B&amp;W image of <i>Too Hot\u00a0<\/i><i>To Work<\/i>. Fred Hunt followed in second place with\u00a0a colour scenic of <i>The\u00a0<\/i><i>Sacred Ground, <\/i>winning\u00a0$100.00. Everett\u00a0Roseborough\u2019s <i>Portrait of\u00a0<\/i><i>Gloria<\/i>, a strong seductive\u00a0head shot was chosen for\u00a0the $50.00 third award.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;The\u00a0judges selected two additional photographs which\u00a0they felt deserving of an\u00a0Honourable Mention.\u00a0Larry Boccioletti and Mike\u00a0Robinson will receive\u00a0$25.00 each.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;The awards will be presented at our\u00a0February 16th [2000] meeting in Toronto. Other\u00a0participants in the competition worth mentioning were: Thomas Ritchie, Walter\u00a0Shean, Vincent Chan, Harold Stein and\u00a0Michael Oesch.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">&#8220;Congratulations to all!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Members saw not \u00a0only this brief summary, but all winning photos and the cameras used in the issue 25-4 pdf on the free members&#8217; only DVD\/thumb drive.
