Ms Perry spoke with us on\u00a0WWII Colour Photographs<\/em><\/a>\u00a0in November two years ago (2011 11 19). She is\u00a0currently working as a photo archivist within the newly formed Archival Description<\/em> department\u00a0at Library and Archives, Canada. Shannon holds an M.A. in Photographic Preservation and Collections Managemen<\/em>t from Ryerson University in Toronto and George Eastman House in Rochester N.Y..<\/p>\n

Interested in the 19th century Canadian photographic industry, Shannon is in her second year of a\u00a0PhD in Visual Cultural Studies at De Montfort University in Leicester U.K.\u00a0Her talk \u00a0this month will be about what she hopes to discover, and what she has found so far.\u00a0She is “looking at the photographic industry between the years 1880 – 1914, specifically focusing on the Ottawa area, and positioning Ottawa photographer William James Topley as a primary node within the network.” Shannon is \u201cinterested in exploring what the landscape looked like pre and post Kodak, with special attention to how Kodak ‘instructed’ the amateur photographer through repeated exposure in the popular press, demonstration techniques and preferred dealer schemes.<\/em> \u201c<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
