John Young’s 1898 Premo Model A Stereo camera<\/p><\/div>\n

Toronto<\/strong>. In issue 24-4, the late Bill Belier continued to publish his column, “A Treasure From My Collection”. As you may know, Bill spent much of his career in photography. In the early days after WW2, as a sales representative, he made many friends including John Young, owner of this remarkably fine example \u00a0of a stereo camera.<\/p>\n

Bill’s column begins, “John Young became a collector of fine cameras not necessarily\u00a0by design, but by circumstance. In a way, you\u00a0might say that he was forced into it!<\/p>\n

“John was not only \u201cYoung\u201d in name, but in age and\u00a0experience. He opened Young\u2019s Cameras in 1947 in a\u00a0low rent area on Queen Street, east of Parliament [Toronto]. He\u00a0learned as he went along, never losing sight of his goal\u00a0to eventually locate on Toronto\u2019s \u201cmain drag\u201d \u2013 Yonge\u00a0Street.<\/p>\n

“In 1953 he moved to an uptown area just north\u00a0of Bloor. After 20 years the property was expropriated\u00a0and he found a downtown location at 352 Yonge St.\u00a0(just north of Dundas) where he would remain until his\u00a0retirement in 1992.<\/p>\n

“Over the years he attracted a loyal following of regular customers that appreciated the unhurried atmosphere of the store and the knowledgeable staff that he\u00a0employed.” …<\/p>\n
