Toronto<\/strong>. Our one time journal editor, the late Ev Roseborough was great story teller. Ev ran his own photography studio and being \u00a0a risk taker in the business, he had a wealth of fascinating tales.<\/p>\n

For editor Bob Lansdale’s issue 24-4, Ev chose a CNE related tale which begins, “This is a continued story; that is, it lasted\u00a0five days. For my part, it was a fiasco to\u00a0end all fiascos, and believe me I have run\u00a0into some dandies!<\/p>\n

“August was always a hectic time of the\u00a0year with the Canadian National Exhibition [CNE]\u00a0due to open during the last week, to say\u00a0nothing of Christmas booklets and advertising either in planning or production\u00a0stages. To make it worse many decision\u00a0makers were still away on holidays.<\/p>\n

“I was fortunate in having an open contract with a large Canadian display firm that\u00a0was operating around-the-clock to complete\u00a0sizeable displays for the major motor car\u00a0manufacturers, oil giants, bakeries and even\u00a0pickle manufacturers. Although operating\u00a0outside this company, I was their ‘photographic arm’, supplying photomurals,\u00a0translite transparencies, slide sequences and\u00a0almost any other form of photography of\u00a0which you might think. Most of these jobs\u00a0were repeat annual affairs.<\/p>\n

“The ‘nightmare’ assignment was from\u00a0a Canadian carpet manufacturer, which\u00a0had just supplied the Royal York Hotel\u00a0with a new specially-woven floor covering\u00a0for their huge lobby. This prestigious\u00a0achievement was to be the backdrop for a\u00a0tremendous product exhibit occupying\u00a0hundreds of square feet in the old\u00a0Manufacturers\u2019 Building, which has since\u00a0burned down.” …<\/p>\n
