Some time back (October, 1997) we had a talk by Michael Pritchard of <a href=\"https:\/\/press.christies.com\/the-maillet-daguerreotype-collection\">Christie&#8217;s<\/a> Auction house. Their NY branch recently announced the online auction of &#8220;The Maillet Daguerreotype Collection&#8221; with bids accepted until June 26th. The \u00a0notice was carried by <a href=\"https:\/\/daguerreiansociety.org\/\">The Daguerreian \u00a0Society<\/a>. which alerted me and I did this post.<\/p>\n<p>While most Dags are estimated to be worth a few thousand or so USD, others are eye popping in perceived value. Many have unknown subjects and\/or photographers but an arresting display. The &#8216;medallion&#8217; shown here was taken by the famous studio of Southworth and Hawes. It is estimated to go for $30,000 to $50,000 in USD.<\/p>\n<p>Some have an estimated value of $150,000! Babbitt&#8217;s Whole-plate daguerreotype of &#8220;<em>Niagara Falls through the Mist in Summer, c. 1850&#8243; is valued at $2<\/em>0,000 to $25,000 US.
