Professor Marta Braun of Ryerson (now TMU)<\/p><\/div>\n

Toronto<\/strong>. The PHSC from its beginning has been blessed with many well educated members – lawyers, professors, software designers, managers, professional photographers, etc. For example, issue 23-4 picks out Dr Marta Braun, professor of \u00a0Image Arts at Ryerson\u00a0Polytechnic University (now TMU) in\u00a0Toronto.<\/p>\n

Marta spoke at our October, 1994 meeting on Marey<\/a> \u00a0and his photographic experiments on motion studies. \u00a0In 1992 her book<\/a> on Marey<\/a> was copyrighted and published in hard cover to world-wide accolades. And four years later (1996) she was honoured by the French government.<\/p>\n

The journal article is written by Bruce Piercey of Ryerson\/TMU and begins, “Marta Braun, professor of\u00a0Image Arts at Ryerson\u00a0Polytechnic University in\u00a0Toronto, has been honoured\u00a0by the French government\u00a0for her acclaimed book on the\u00a0scientist and photographer\u00a0Etienne-Jules Marey.<\/p>\n

“Prof. Braun was awarded\u00a0the Knight of the Order of\u00a0Academic Palms by the government of France in a special ceremony during the\u00a0\u201cAlliance Fran\u00e7aise\u201d in\u00a0Toronto. The French consul\u00a0general presented her with\u00a0the medal which is given to\u00a0those who have rendered services to the cause of French knowledge,\u00a0culture, scientific progress and education.<\/p>\n

“The award is equivalent to the Legion of\u00a0Honour, being the highest honorific title\u00a0for academics; both awards were created\u00a0by Napoleon 1st.” …<\/p>\n
