Toronto<\/strong>. Every so often editor Ev Roseborough would reprint an article from others he felt would be of interest to PHSC members. In 20-5, he reprinted an article found in the PHSNE Journal. The article, by Jack Naylor, is titled, “End of the Mamas Collection”.<\/p>\n

While Harry Mamas in Jack’s story collected movie gear, Jack’s cautionary tale applies to all collectors. It is indeed a sad story that he tells.<\/p>\n

Part way through the article Jack writes, “Harry knew <\/span>that he <\/span>was <\/span>not <\/span>going <\/span>to\u00a0<\/span>last very <\/span>long<\/span>. <\/span>He <\/span>died <\/span>in 1992. <\/span>So\u00a0did <\/span>his wife<\/span>. <\/span>He <\/span>wanted <\/span>to <\/span>see his\u00a0collection go <\/span>to <\/span>one <\/span>place <\/span>(all\u00a0<\/span>collectors have <\/span>the same wish). His\u00a0asking <\/span>price, <\/span>working through an\u00a0<\/span>agent <\/span>who <\/span>was <\/span>less than helpful,\u00a0<\/span>was <\/span>$50,000 <\/span>for <\/span>everything.<\/span><\/p>\n

“From what <\/span>I could <\/span>see, there were\u00a0<\/span>enough <\/span>fine <\/span>items <\/span>there to <\/span>make <\/span>the\u00a0collection <\/span>worth <\/span>the <\/span>price<\/span>. <\/span>There <\/span>was\u00a0<\/span>no <\/span>cherry <\/span>picking<\/span>. <\/span>Harry <\/span>would <\/span>have\u00a0<\/span>accepted <\/span>a <\/span>lesser <\/span>amount, but <\/span>there\u00a0<\/span>were <\/span>no buyers <\/span>– <\/span>perhaps <\/span>because <\/span>it\u00a0<\/span>was <\/span>such a mess.”<\/span><\/p>\n
