When collectors think of TLR design, they usually think &#8216;Rollei&#8217;. Other firms also made cameras in the TLR design. Most of these cameras seem to follow Rollei in general layout and style.<\/p>\n<p>To hop on the minicam bandwagon, the famous professional camera maker of &#8216;Graflex&#8217; fame bought up a small American competitor who made and sold the <a href=\"http:\/\/camera-wiki.org\/wiki\/Ciro-flex\">Ciro-flex<\/a> cameras. Graflex advertised the economic TLR line as &#8220;<em>How to take the guess out of picture-taking<\/em>&#8221; in its April 1952 Popular Mechanics ad.<\/p>\n<p>My thanks to my good friend and fellow photo-historian, George Dunbar, for suggesting this idea and providing the ad from Popular Mechanics.<\/p>\n<p>I think of the post title as a TLR format (square) and the &#8216;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Circle_of_confusion\">circle of confusion<\/a>&#8216; (circle). The mathematical meaning is explained by the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Squaring_the_circle\">wikipedia article<\/a>. Loosely, it means to join two things<a href=\"https:\/\/www.collinsdictionary.com\/dictionary\/english\/square-the-circle#:~:text=Definition%20of%20%27square%20the%20circle%27&amp;text=If%20you%20say%20that%20someone,that%20they%20cannot%20exist%20together.\"> usually thought to be mutually exclusive<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto.
