The second book in <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Douglas_Adams\">Douglas Adams<\/a>&#8216; five volume &#8220;trilogy&#8221; &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Hitchhiker%27s_Guide_to_the_Galaxy\">The Hitchhiker&#8217;s Guide to the Galaxy<\/a> &#8211; is titled &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Restaurant_at_the_End_of_the_Universe\">The Restaurant at the end of the Universe<\/a>&#8220;. It clarifies the difference between physical distance and temporal distance.<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, while we in west Toronto are physically just next door to the photographs, time-wise we are over a century away from them. Their graininess is due entirely to the <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Halftone\">halftone<\/a> process of the day that &#8216;transformed&#8217; black (ink) and white (no ink) into shades of grey so photographs could be reproduced. I have books from the 1950s and earlier whose photos have a similar lack of resolution thanks to the halftone process once used.<\/p>\n<p>The photographs for this post are on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.insauga.com\/the-clock-tower-that-once-stood-at-erin-mills-town-centre-in-mississauga\">Insauga<\/a>\u00a0[In Mississauga] web site.
