The October, 1942 issue of Popular Mechanics magazine has a small article on a little plastic 35mm transparency or film strip viewer. I have a wooden transparency viewer of similar vintage that also uses a frosted screen to spread out ambient light so the slide can be viewed.<\/p>\n<p>In November of 2019, I did a post on a &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/phsc.ca\/camera\/when-is-a-camera-not-a-camera-2\/\">Komic Kamera<\/a>&#8221; that also used a small film strip. \u00a0Such small gadgets seemed very popular for a time giving one an easy way to preview slides and strips before projecting them on screen.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to my good friend George Dunbar for sharing his find with us. The article brings back memories of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ebay.ca\/itm\/163687226138?chn=ps&amp;norover=1&amp;mkevt=1&amp;mkrid=706-89093-2056-0&amp;mkcid=2&amp;itemid=163687226138&amp;targetid=1280056223688&amp;device=c&amp;mktype=pla&amp;googleloc=9000986&amp;poi=&amp;campaignid=9561945102&amp;mkgroupid=122192455386&amp;rlsatarget=pla-1280056223688&amp;abcId=1063836&amp;merchantid=138581087&amp;gclid=EAIaIQobChMI-8OBtLz-9gIVD6_ICh1iqw6iEAQYAyABEgIwJPD_BwE\">similar toy gadget<\/a> I had as a child. It was all black and complete with 16mm film strips. I don&#8217;t remember if it was a gift or not.
