We often heard of the gold rush and the men &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.poetryfoundation.org\/poems\/45081\/the-cremation-of-sam-mcgee\">who moil for gold<\/a>&#8221; as Robert Service says in his poem &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_Cremation_of_Sam_McGee\">The Cremation of Sam McGee<\/a>&#8220;, but we seldom heard of the girls of questionable virtue attracted to the &#8220;wild west&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The Daily Mail in the UK carried an article titled, &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailymail.co.uk\/news\/article-5453959\/The-everyday-lives-prostitutes-Wild-West.html\">The &#8216;soiled doves&#8217; of the Wild West: Photos reveal the everyday lives of prostitutes in the brothels of the American Frontier<\/a>&#8221; which includes the photo at left from Dawson City in the Yukon.<\/p>\n<p>One of our members once had a studio in <a href=\"https:\/\/phsc.ca\/camera\/?p=9139\">Dawson City<\/a> and gave a talk on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/klgo\/planyourvisit\/chilkoottrail.htm\">Chilkoot Trail<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/phsc.ca\/camera\/?p=4937\">September 2o15<\/a>. It was about the realities of the Chilkoot Trail and the gold rush. Like so many things, it took money and good fortune just to survive let alone succeed!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto.
