Mankind has always been fascinated with transportation: horses, trains, bicycles, cars, ships, aircraft, etc. As a kid I always thought <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Henry_Ford\">Henry Ford<\/a> invented the automobile. Not so! Ford adapted the assembly line to automobile manufacture and dropped the cost and price so any of his employees could afford a car, like his <a href=\"http:\/\/phsc.ca\/camera\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/Model-T-Ford-Car.jpg\">Model T<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The invention of the first practical automobile was in Germany in 1885 by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Karl_Benz\">Karl Benz<\/a>, whose company evolved into Daimler-Benz, \u00a0makers of the famous Mercedes-Benz. \u00a0In 2009, Mark Green of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk\">Science and Media Museum<\/a> in Bradford, England told how the museum was commissioned by \u00a0Daimler AG to <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.scienceandmediamuseum.org.uk\/how-to-digitise-10000-motoring-photographs\/\">digitize 10,000 motoring photographs<\/a> taken in the 1930s by <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zolt\u00e1n_Glass\">Zolt\u00e1n Glass<\/a> like this photo of\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/collection.sciencemuseumgroup.org.uk\/objects\/co8226115\/hans-stuck-in-a-mercedes-benz-ssk-racing-car-photograph-digital-positive-from-celluloid-negative\">Hans Stuck in a \u00a0Mercedes-Benz SSK racing car<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>My humble thanks to George Dunbar for the patience to find this page and the decision to copy me, Thanks George &#8211; a great find.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto.
