Last week&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\">Globe and Mail<\/a> carried a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theglobeandmail.com\/arts\/art-and-architecture\/article-the-unintended-consequences-journalism-can-have-on-communities\/\">column<\/a> by Rachel Wine on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.gordonparksfoundation.org\/exhibitions\">exhibition<\/a> at the <a href=\"https:\/\/ryersonimagecentre.ca\">Ryerson Image Centre<\/a> (RIC). The exhibition is the photo essay <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Gordon_Parks\">Gordon Parks<\/a> did in 1961 for LIFE magazine called <em>The Fl\u00e1vio Story. <\/em>It tells of the de Silva family in a hillside favela (slum) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.<\/p>\n<p>For 20 cents US, you could buy a copy of the <a href=\"https:\/\/books.google.ca\/books?id=olQEAAAAMBAJ&amp;pg=PA86&amp;source=gbs_toc_r&amp;cad=2#v=onepage&amp;q&amp;f=false\">June 16, 1961<\/a> issue of LIFE magazine about 57 years ago and read the story. The RIC exhibition runs from September 12th through to December 9th of this year.
