Ernest Brown was born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, the bleak northern English town famous for its coal mines many decades ago, on September 8th, 1877, or so the book by Derek Hayes called &#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/phsc.ca\/camera\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/B.C.-photographers-3-1892-x.jpg\">Canada: An Illustrated History<\/a>\u00a0notes based on an entry in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/ernest-brown\/\">Canadian Encyclopedia<\/a> published in print and online by the famous\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thecanadianencyclopedia.ca\/en\/article\/mel-hurtig\/\">Mel Hurtig<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 1892, Brown photographed <a href=\"http:\/\/phsc.ca\/camera\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/B.C.-photographers-1-1892-x.jpg\">three fellow photographers<\/a> in Mission BC while they were busy snapping the native Indians performing &#8220;<em>The Crucifixion<\/em>&#8220;. His fellow snappers, from left, are <a href=\"http:\/\/collections.musee-mccord.qc.ca\/scripts\/explore.php?Lang=1&amp;tableid=18&amp;tablename=fond&amp;elementid=15__true\">William Manson Boone [William Hanson Boorne], Ernest G May [Boorne&#8217;s cousin and business partner in Calgary], and Charles W Mathers [who later bought the Boorne and May business in Calgary]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The first volume of <em>Photographic Canadiana,<\/em> issue 7 , in an excerpt from the \u00a0&#8220;<a href=\"http:\/\/phsc.ca\/camera\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/07\/CDF0C00D-7C79-49A9-BCE7-E3F7CAD153C6.jpg\">Canadian Photographic Journal<\/a>&#8221; notes &#8220;An Early Western Photographer&#8221; mentioning Boorne and May in Calgary.<\/p>\n<p>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Toronto.
