Harold Staats and a Lancaster View camera
Toronto. Long time PHSC member, frequenter of our fairs, and a concert photographer Harold Staats recently wrote this note on his winning of the people’s choice award this year with his arresting black & white shot of guitarist Eric Clapton. You can see Harold’s photos on Flicker!

“Most Torontonians have heard of or attended the Beaches International Jazz Festival that was held last month. It has been a popular annual summer event for over 26 years. During the festival Queen Street East is closed to vehicular traffic from Beech to Woodbine Avenue on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evening. Singers and bands entertain at various intersections and storefronts while people stroll by and enjoy the music and visit the shops and restaurants along Queen Street.
“On Saturday and Sunday during the day people gather around the main stage to relax and listen to artists from all over the world. The Jazz Festival has grown in popularity over the years and now takes place over a period of two weeks with other events including seminars, dance and jazz workshops. “In the past four years there has been a juried jazz photography exhibit “Jazz in Motion”. The contest is open to everyone, must be a jazz or blues music theme and can be from any musical event in the world.
“Concert photography has been one of my interest for many years. I have participated and exhibited in the Jazz Photography contest for the past 3 years. This year I was fortunate enough to win the people’s choice award for one of my photographs of Eric Clapton. “
