Toronto, December 12, 2013. Merry Christmas everyone. Our very own David Bridge has done a super job on the Christmas edition of our popular newsletter.

From top left: Front Cover, 2013 PHSC Thesis Award is presented by our John Morden to Kate Addleman-Frankel, Below is Bob Lansdale’s shot of the last known diorama by Daguerre, A trio of Authors: Les Jones, Robert Wilson and (below) Larry Gubas, a gadget in Bob Lansdale’s “From the Net” column, and Bob’s portrait of our November speaker, Shannon Perry.

In this issue, we announce our traditional Christmas program – an annual favourite. I spell off president Mark Singer with a summary of Ms Shannon Perry’s November talk.

We cover a trio of new books published or about to be: Our past president Les Jones launches his Soccer Book – history with a Canadian emphasis; We sell PHSC Press’s first book (shown is author Dr Robert Wilson); and Larry Gubas announces his opus and third Zeiss book, this time on cameras. Larry is president of Zeiss Historica which is an exchange club with the PHSC.

The odd looking gadget in the upper right is a “selfie” aid, attention-getter, or prompter as described in the “From the Net” column. Bob Lansdale describes his trip to France this past fall and in particular his photographing of Daguerre’s last known diorama during the annual meeting of the Daguerreian Society.

Our secretary and awards chairman, John Morden presents this year’s Thesis Award to Ms Kate Addleman-Frankel of Ryerson. Her thesis will appear in a later issue of Photographic Canadiana – watch for it! And this issue wraps up with some current events and want ads.
